A NATURAL BALANCE
Increasingly, I find myself at a nexus point between the practice of art and the pursuit of optimal health. My latest work is an expression of that exploration.

OPENING OF “PERSONAL PATH” PROVIDES A FORUM FOR CROSS-CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Cultural exchange is the balm for today’s tense political climate, and art is the universal language that can initiate the dialogue. In today’s tense political climate, the most important thing to support is cultural exchange. Art, as US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman affirms, “transcends us all. It transcends borders, boundaries.” Susan Swartz’s exhibition “Personal Path,” which opened Tuesday, November 28th at the State Russian Museum, transcends boundaries, creating a dialogue between the United States and Russia. For the first time in five years an American artist is exhibiting work at a Russian museum.
VISUAL MAPPING OF THE SOUL
After Salzburg, Koblenz and Budapest, St. Petersburg is now the fourth European location in which the American artist is staging her solo exhibition "Personal Path". On view until January 29, 2018 in the State Russian Museum are 113 of her paintings.

THE BHUTAN SERIES
The Bhutan Series is a new set of paintings inspired by Susan’s recent trip to Bhutan, the land of Gross National Happiness. Focusing on native vibrant colors, The Bhutan Series explores the region’s landscape, in particular its rare confluence of spirituality and natural beauty.
COMBINING SPIRITUALITY WITH NATURE: SUSAN’S TROP TO BHUTAN
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a land of startling beauty and aesthetic contrast: craggy peaks and verdant valleys, fraying rope bridges stretching across milky blue glacial rivers, terraced rice paddies and stone templates strung with faded prayer flags. Much has been made of Bhutan’s promotion of Gross National Happiness as its primary national measurement.
THE EXTENSION OF A PERSONAL PATH
Once in a while we are treated to something unexpected that reminds us of the power of human creativity and passion. A Personal Path at the Kollegienkirche in Salzburg is one of those rare treats and the announcement of the exhibition’s extension through fully half of the world-famous Salzburg Festival is a magnificent icing on the cake.
THE ARRIVAL OF SUMMER
Summer is settling upon Martha’s Vineyard like a picnic blanket atop a hill. As the sun’s rays grow stronger and friends and neighbors flock toward the shore, we are reminded of the awesome power of the sea to motivate and inspire. There is no better time than this moment to reflect upon Susan Swartz’s water paintings – the breadth and depth of which are not to be overlooked.
SUSAN SWARTZ CONTEMPLATION SERIES
Susan has been painting prolifically and earnestly, compelled by some unseen urge to create. Even as her work has evolved over the past few years from expressionism into something more modern and abstract, she usually structures her paintings with form and color.
Not so with one of her most recent series. Contemplation constitutes a collection of works that allow Susan to find respite from the riotous colors and intentional forms of her other collections.
ZIONS BANK COMMISSIONS SUSAN SWARTZ
Today Zions Bank opens their new Idaho Headquarters in Boise. The top floor will known as the "Founders Room" and will feature Susan Swartz's two new works, Idaho Majesty I and II each 48x85, in addition to the amazing Boise vistas.
SUSAN SWARTZ DESCENDING INTO A RICH MASH
With daylight savings suddenly behind us, the days of growing darkness are here. The paradox of light and shadow brings necessary balance, and not only in a painting. As an artist, Susan embraces this darkness as a ballast for the brightness of spring. And, she knows that in any season, the natural world offers both beauty and terror, both life and death, both light and dark, all combined in a rich mash.
SUSAN SWARTZ LANDSCAPE OF RESONANCES
In addition to her Water Study and Untitled series, Susan has been moving toward abstraction with a third painting series wholly distinct from the others. Now totaling six paintings in all, the Landscape of Resonances series takes the natural world and distills it to its essences: light, heat, form, color.
SUSAN SWARTZ WATER STUDY 005
The most recent painting in Susan’s abstract Water Study series, Water Study 005 pushes viewers out of their comfort zone and upends the color story we associate with water: clear blues and milky greens. Instead, Susan gives us the opposite end of the color spectrum—hues that could be interpreted as the last coral traces of a peaceful sunset reflected on the ocean, or as a corrosive, clogged and wholly unnatural waterway.
SUSAN SWARTZ WATER STUDY 004
While Susan has fully embraced abstract painting only for the past few years, there was foreshadowing of a major artistic revolution in some of her earlier work, like Exploding Sky from 2008 or even Calm Day from 2009.
