Art as Medicine
Art has always been my medicine.
Increasingly, I find myself at a nexus point between the practice of art and the pursuit of optimal health. My latest work is an expression of that exploration.
Functional medicine views the body as one integrated system. Similarly, in my latest artistic approach, I took inspiration from certain natural elements known to be vital sources of healing and infused them into the mix for a sculptural effect. Like a wellspring of vitality, my paintings are meant to evoke a feeling of wholeness by layering nature directly into the narrative.
As I reflect on the developments of the past year and the ever-present threat of illness all round us, my time in studio has been dedicated to re-imagining the longevity of these natural remedies and to integrate their potency onto the canvas so that their original properties become indistinguishable sources of life-force energy. I am seeking to preserve the natural cycle in perpetuity and to symbolize its harmonious rhythms as part of the beautiful complexity of life. And, in this particular moment in time, I take great comfort in the visual restoration of the natural balance.
