OPENING OF “PERSONAL PATH” PROVIDES A FORUM FOR CROSS-CULTURAL EXCHANGE
Cultural exchange is the balm for today’s tense political climate, and art is the universal language that can initiate the dialogue. In today’s tense political climate, the most important thing to support is cultural exchange. Art, as US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman affirms, “transcends us all. It transcends borders, boundaries.” Susan Swartz’s exhibition “Personal Path,” which opened Tuesday, November 28th at the State Russian Museum, transcends boundaries, creating a dialogue between the United States and Russia. For the first time in five years an American artist is exhibiting work at a Russian museum.

ART AND ARCHITECTURE, A SYNERGISTIC RELATIONSHIP
Harmony is a state of coexistence, it is achieved when two or more entities complement each other and enhance one another’s effects. It is ubiquitous, but when things are in perfect harmony we rarely give a second thought to the disparate elements at play. The connection between art and architecture is too often forgotten, an example of a harmonious relationship.
SALZBURG: A CITY OF MUSIC AND ART
There is something unique about Salzburg. Like many European cities, it is rich with history and alive with the hum of modern technology and life. Like so many other cities, the stones of its churches, palaces, schools and homes tell stories centuries old. Yet there is something distinct about Salzburg. It is a city of music, dance and artistic expression in immeasurable and innumerable ways.

MARGARET MEE: REFLECTIONS ON AN AMAZONIAN WOMAN
Before settling into her summer painting season in Martha's Vineyard, Susan traveled to the Amazon this spring. The Amazon Basin is a place palpably alive, and Susan could not just see and hear, but also feel the air pulsing with vitality there. During her travels, painterly images kept coming into her mind—bright colors and rich brushstrokes. Many years ago Susan was introduced to the work of another woman painter who she very much admires, British painter named Margaret Mee. Mee spent quite a bit of time painting in the Amazon in the middle part of the 20th century. “I see a lot of parallels between Margaret’s life and my own,” explains Susan. “Like me, she was an environmental activist and was plagued by environmental health problems. Also like me, she was a fiercely determined woman who painted her entire life.”
