The Reviews are In: Jason McCoy Features Susan Swartz in New Orleans
After Jason McCoy announced Susan Swartz' s representation with a debut solo show in New York earlier this year, New Orleans was the first city that came to mind. He knew that it would be the perfect first stop for the acclaimed artist, activist, and documentary film producer's pop-up series. New Orleans checked all of the boxes: not only is it a complementary backdrop for Susan's vivid artwork, but the artist shares the community's concern for the environment, health, food, and education.
We are thrilled to share the reviews from visitors to the exhibition, including Walda Bestoff, the visionary founder and namesake behind New Orleans’ renowned sculpture garden, and John Georges, Owner of The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate & Nola.com.
“We are thrilled to have internationally acclaimed artist Susan Swartz as an honored guest at the NOMA sculpture garden and delighted that she has brought the gift of her art to New Orleans,” said Walda Bestoff. “Monet is the obvious nature artist who comes to mind, and we will remember his blockbuster show at NOMA in the 90’s. Susan’s work reflects his subtle influence. Going back to early American artists Thomas Cole and Martin Johnson Heade and coming forward to Joan Mitchell, Susan has embraced the past while putting her own charming and fresh imprimatur of light and color in her ongoing body of work.”
At the opening, John Georges stated, “We connect very strongly with Susan's work here in New Orleans. The way she depicts flowers and nature deeply resonates with us. Her use of color and deliberate absence of color in the white paintings have a strong impact”.
The pop-up was also highlighted in the May 2023 edition of Adore Magazine:
