SUSAN SWARTZ LOVES SPEED: THE ART OF THE PERFORMANCE AUTOMOBILE AT UMFA
Ladies: do you ever have trouble enticing your man into an art gallery or museum? Well Susan has a show for him…and you! Just roaring into Salt Lake City at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts is Speed: The Art of the Performance Automobile.
Showcasing 19 of the world’s finest and fastest automobiles, the exhibition features a century of legends on wheels that exemplify premier aerodynamics, engineering, art and design of their era. From the ultra-cool 1957 Jaguar XK-SS Roadster (once owned by Steve McQueen) to the 1938 Mormon Meteor III–the famous Bonneville racer that holds more long distance speed records than any other automobile in history--this exhibition is sure to get your art-loving engines…and man…revving.
Speed was organized by noted automotive historian and guest curator Ken Gross and is on view at the UMFA through September 16, 2012.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is Utah's primary cultural resource for global visual arts. It is unique in its dual role as a university and state art museum. It is Utah's only visual arts institution that collects, exhibits, interprets, and preserves a comprehensive collection of original art objects. The UMFA hosted Susan’s solo exhibition Natural Revelations in 2008. Susan's painting, Steadfast Strength 72 x 72, is in the UMFA permanent collection.
